Performance ON/OFF | Łódź Wielu Kultur Festival

Theater, Łódź Wielu Kultur Festival. The performance introduces Deaf Culture: its history, customs and values, shown from the perspective of people for whom silence is an everyday experience. The creators examine how a linguistic minority functions in a world organized for the needs of hearing people, and everyday situations of two languages meeting. Polish Sign Language is presented as a fully-fledged stage language, not as a deficiency requiring compensation. The concept and direction were prepared by Ewa Łukasiewicz, and the stage features, among others, Joanna Szpakowska-Jędraszczyk, Sebastian Jasitczak and Krzysztof Michalak, a long-time actor at the Łódź Theater of Pantomime at the Polish Deaf Association.
