Mario Martone's latest film ('Nostalgia') is an electrifying portrait of Goliarda Sapienza – a thief, lover, prisoner, and defiant icon of freedom, as well as one of Italy's most outstanding contemporary writers. This mature, liberated woman navigates a world of violence and political tension while preserving her sensitivity and passion, refusing to surrender her right to live by her own rules. Valeria Golino, an Italian cinema icon, embodies Sapienza, creating a portrait of a woman ahead of her time. In this film, Martone skillfully portrays the contradictions within his protagonist: intellect and sensuality, audacity and tenderness, melancholy and rebellion.
