Every day, approximately 360 buses and 175 trams of MPK Łódź take to the streets of Łódź. Each day they cover a combined distance of approximately 150,000 km! That's almost 4 times around the Earth!
The year 2018 is the year of public transport in Łódź, as it marks no fewer than 5 important anniversaries:
- 120th anniversary of the launch of tram service in Łódź
The ceremonial opening of tram service in Łódź took place on December 23, 1898 at 1:00 PM. The first tram left the depot on ul. Tramwajowa (Tram Street) heading to Helenów. The first two tram lines had a total length of 5.8 km.
- 70th anniversary of the launch of bus service in Łódź
In 1948, bus service was launched in Łódź – 7 vehicles were put into operation. The first bus line "A" served the route between Plac Niepodległości (Independence Square) and Józefów. The next line, launched 3 years later, ran along ul. Piotrkowskiej between Plac Wolności (Freedom Square) and Plac Niepodległości.
- 25th anniversary of the establishment of MPK-Łódź Sp. z o.o.
On January 1, 1993, the Municipal Public Transport Company – Łódź Limited Liability Company began operations.
- 15th anniversary of the launch of the Tourist Tram Line
The Tourist Tram Line is a project of ZDiT, the Society of Friends of Historic Trams, and MPK Łódź. Trams on the tourist line "0" operated during the summer season starting in June 2003. In 2012, the decision was made to discontinue the dedicated tourist route – instead, one of the service lines on route 43 (Telefoniczna–Lutomiersk) is operated by a historic tram on Sundays and holidays.
- 5th anniversary of the opening of the Brus Museum Depot
The depot at Brus was built in 1910 when the line to Konstantynów Łódzki was launched. On March 31, 2012, the depot ended its regular operations, and in 2013 the first historic trams and buses arrived at Brus, and the facility was opened to the public.
