It's no secret that a dog is man's best friend. Public awareness about the proper treatment of animals has grown in recent years, and more and more dog- and cat-friendly places are appearing. Where in Łódź can you take your four-legged companion with you?

Cafés and restaurants

Until recently, the idea of bringing a dog into a café or restaurant was uncommon in Poland. Today the situation looks different. You can bring your dog to Mebloteka Yellow at Piotrkowska 138/140, the café-club Niebostan at Piotrkowska 17, the café Prosto z Mostu at ul. Wyszyńskiego 25, and Vinda at ul. Zgierska 69, among others. Dogs are also welcome at Trattoria Bandiera Italiana, the restaurant Heksagon 2.0 at ul. Pomorska 144, Sielsko Anielsko at ul. Dożynkowa 2/4, and Szwalnia Smaków at Piotrkowska 217. Before visiting any of these places with your dog, it's always worth calling ahead to confirm the rules haven't changed, especially if the restaurant has a small dining room.

Where to walk with your dog

For a walk with your four-legged friend, try Łódź's Błonia (the area between Kusocińskiego, Juszczakiewicza and Konstantynowska streets, including the area around Retkińska Górka) or Uroczysko Lublinek, the second-largest municipal forest in Łódź, in the Polesie district. Both areas are well suited to longer walks and lie somewhat off the beaten path, giving dogs more room to move freely.

Shopping with your dog

Łódź also has a growing number of dog-friendly places beyond food and drink. Centrum Handlowe M1 at ul. Brzezińska 27/29 explicitly states that it is a space friendly to guests "on four paws" and invites pet owners to shop there together with their pets.

It's no wonder the places listed above are popular with Łódź residents: some have been well known for years (especially the cafés and restaurants), while others are visited regularly by most of the city's residents (M1). Being able to bring a four-legged friend to different places makes life significantly easier for dog owners, though it's always worth checking the current rules on site or by phone, as they do change.
