8 Most Interesting Investments in New Center Łódź

New Center Łódź is intended to become the city's flagship – a true center and meeting place for residents, tourists, and businesspeople. Currently, this role is primarily played by Piotrkowska and Manufaktura, but the authorities are aiming to create a center modeled on other major cities. One of its main points will be the recently built Dworzec Fabryczny; in addition, plans include the construction of a hotel, office buildings, and a market square. Below we present 8 of the most interesting investments – those planned and those already in existence – that will form the new heart of the city.

1. Łódź Fabryka Railway Station

By design a multimodal transportation hub that connects tram lines, bus lines, and railway lines, enabling fast and convenient communication between different parts of the city. Impressive are the station's size, the glass roof (sunlight reaches even the underground platforms), and the reference to the historic railway station facade inside the building.

2. EC1

EC1 is the revitalized oldest power plant in Łódź. It currently houses a Planetarium and a newly opened Science and Technology Center. Temporary exhibitions are also organized (until June 2018, you can see, among others, the Leonardo da Vinci exhibition, which has been visited by millions of people worldwide). EC1 is an excellent example of how to repurpose old buildings and connect their history with contemporary times (for example, the energy path in the Science and Technology Center). EC1 is intended to be the scientific and artistic center of New Center Łódź.

3. Rynek Kobro

The most important element of New Center Łódź is to be Rynek Kobro – the name is a tribute to the Łódź avant-garde artist, wife of Władysław Strzemiński. Cascading descents with plenty of greenery, flowing water leading to the station's parking, embedded LED lights, and decorative clinker paving – this is how Rynek Kobro, located between office buildings, is supposed to look according to preliminary visualizations. Construction is expected to be completed in 2022.

4. Ghelamco: Hotel

Ghelamco decided to build several buildings on the most expensive plot of land in Łódź. One of them is a luxury hotel, which is to be built almost right next to Dworzec Fabryczny (EC1 will be located behind it). The company plans to build a seven-story building; the hotel would house 166 rooms.

5. Ghelamco: Office Building

Another building on Ghelamco's plans is a seven-story office building; its area would be 18,000 square meters. Like the hotel, its interiors would meet the highest standards.

6. Ghelamco: Apartment Building

The company's last major investment is an apartment building. It should come as no surprise that the strong point of the investment is to be luxury interiors. It's worth noting that, like the two other buildings built by Ghelamco, its planned height is seven stories. This will give NCŁ greater coherence.

7. Passages

Small, atmospheric passages are to be created between the buildings; restaurants, cafes, and wine bars could open in them.

8. New Street

As part of New Center Łódź, a road is also to be built connecting ul. Kilińskiego with aleja Grohmanów, which would significantly improve communication in the city center.
