Although residents and numerous tourists visiting Łódź have access to the vast majority of venues participating in this initiative nearly year-round, it is precisely this one night that attracts the largest audience. Despite it being just a few hours dedicated to sightseeing on the night from Saturday to Sunday, each year an increasing number of people are eager to explore subsequent cultural sites under the cover of darkness. In Łódź, the event appeared for the first time in 2005, when Night of Museums was attended by only 8 institutions. Today, visitors typically have dozens of cultural institutions to choose from, with admission completely free.
Visitors are attracted not only by the opportunity for free sightseeing, but also often by the chance to look into places that are not normally accessible to the public. On the occasion of Night of Museums, institutions prepare special workshops and attractions or bring interesting exhibits that cannot be viewed on regular days.
Night of Museums Formula
The formula of Night of Museums has remained unchanged since the event's inception. However, more and more institutions are joining, allowing visitors to cross their thresholds. In addition, you can count on a range of attractions such as concerts, refreshments, and workshops organized with both adults and children in mind.
In 2018, Łódź will again be displaying its cultural charms on the night of May 19 to 20. This is an event that should definitely find a place in the calendar of every Łódź resident and tourists who have come to learn not only about museums and galleries, but also other venues and the most important attractions in Łódź. This year's Night of Museums will also open the doors of Akademia Sztuk Pięknych (Academy of Fine Arts), Teatr Powszechny (Powszechny Theatre), MOTODROM, Instytut Pamięci Narodowej (Institute of National Remembrance), and Sąd Okręgowy (District Court).

Among the venues definitely worth visiting are Muzeum Kinematografii (Museum of Cinematography), Muzeum Tradycji Niepodległościowych (Museum of Independence Traditions), Muzeum Historii Medycyny Uniwersytetu Medycznego (Museum of Medical History of Medical University), Muzeum Farmacji (Pharmacy Museum), and Muzeum Miasta Łodzi (Łódź City Museum). This is already the tenth edition of Night of Museums at the Łódź branch of the Institute of National Remembrance. In the year of the centennial of Poland's regaining independence, the event takes place under the motto #MyIndependence.

Moreover, during the event, the exhibition curator will be present – Dr. Joanna Borucka-Piech – who will be happy to answer any questions about the exhibition.
An additional attraction during the night visit will be workshops prepared by the Center for Japanese Language and Culture in Łódź named after Prof. Ryochu Umedy operating at the Archaeological and Ethnographic Museum in Łódź, including calligraphy lessons and origami (planned workshop time – 18:00 – 01:00).

This year's "Night of Museums" titled "YOU LOOK GOOD WITH INDEPENDENCE" will be dedicated to two topics: photography and the jubilee of the 100th anniversary of Poland's regaining independence. Patriotic and photographic issues will interpenetrate, so photographers won't lack interesting subjects and scenes of a patriotic nature. Specialists will conduct workshops on aperture photography, stop-motion animation, and introduce participants to the basic secrets of photographic art. Plans also include exploring the abandoned school building for photographic purposes. The event will be accompanied by demonstrations by Łódź uniformed schools. During the event, the results of a photography competition titled "YOU LOOK GOOD WITH INDEPENDENCE" will be announced. Prize-winning photographs presenting one's own vision of patriotism, taken by young people, will enliven our commemorative exhibitions.

Kreatoora is a magical place located in the historic part of Łódź on Księży Młyn – a workers' district built by Łódź manufacturer Karol Scheibler. The venue uniquely combines the function of a studio of Łódź painter Ewa Żochowska and an artistic café. In 2017, Kreatoora received a Point for Łódź for "creating an artistic atmosphere and delicious coffee," and in 2018, it was among the 5 best-designed cafés in Łódź according to F5 magazine, Poland's largest urban trends service. Kreatoora actively participates in cultural events in our city, organizes intimate meetings and art workshops. The studio offers unique artistic souvenirs from Łódź, including candlesticks, magnets, coasters, and boxes with Księży Młyn and Łódź motifs, as well as graphics inspired by Łódź architecture. And everything is designed and made at Kreatoora Studio in limited, small series. During Night of Museums, Kreatoora Studio invites you to Ewa Żochowska's painting event "Please Disturb – artist on the night shift." In Cafe Kreatoora, you will immerse yourself in the atmosphere of Księży Młyn – here the spirit of Karol Scheibler's times intertwines with modernity…Only during Night of Museums: a set of homemade Charlotte cake and coffee at a special price of 12 PLN and a 20% discount on graphics with Księży Młyn and Łódź motifs.
Ewa Żochowska
(born 1976, Łódź) Łódź painter, graphic designer, and designer. She is a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź (diploma in painting and graphics in 2002). Owner of Kreatoora Studio and Café on Księży Młyn in Łódź and organizer of art events and workshops.
In her surreal painting, Żochowska attempts to capture the original pure intensity and timelessness through the analysis of human emotions and self-analysis of internal fears. It is painting from the perspective of a woman while simultaneously attempting to go beyond the bounds of typical femininity and playing with femme fatale symbolism. She paints in cycles (including: "Dead Flowers," "Affects," "Lace," "Insomnia"), in which motifs interpenetrate, and the unifying element is the image of a woman undergoing successive transformations.
In 2015, she received an honorable distinction in the "Young Polish Painting" competition by the Ale Sztuka! Gallery for the painting "Dead Flowers – Louise," in 2006 a nomination for the award at the V Self-Portrait Triennial, and in 2000 a nomination for the award in the XVII W. Strzeminski Competition. She is the author of individual exhibitions including: at Bałucka Gallery (2007, 2017), at ELart Gallery (2017), and group exhibitions, including: "She.
