Łódź Murals – 12 Spectacular Works of Art Admired by the World Today

They attract the world's attention and represent Polish street art credentials. Łódź murals rank among the most valued in the entire world. Foreign artists come here to create their works, and Polish creators gain international fame through murals on Łódź buildings. Today we look at twelve of the most spectacular murals that adorn the city.

The Wanderer and the Goats

One of Poland's largest murals was created on a building at aleja Wyszyńskiego 80. It measures 35 by 12 meters and depicts a mysterious wanderer surrounded by goats. This is a favorite motif of Chilean artist known by the pseudonym Inti, who created this painting in 2013. True, some residents of the building protested the work, seeing the wanderer's face as either Jesus or an alien, but this was not a representative voice. Both the remaining residents, Łódź citizens, and tourists and visitors are delighted by this painting.

In the Airplane ‒ a mural in honor of Tuwim

The Etam group created an extraordinary mural on a building at aleja Politechniki 16 depicting an elderly woman holding a hen in her arms. The gray-haired and wrinkled woman wears a green floral scarf tied around her head, and her gaze is fixed somewhere into space. The hen, meanwhile, rewards the viewer with an intriguing look. The composition measures 16 meters in height and 12 meters in width. The inspiration for its creation was a poem by Juliusz Tuwim titled "In the Airplane," which begins with the verses "Grandmother had a hen, a golden-feathered hen." Work on the mural lasted six days.

Colorful Abstraction at Kościuszki

Spanish artist Kenor, who specializes in geometric abstractions, created an extraordinary mural at aleja Kościuszki 32. His work was nominated for an award for the best urban mural, funded by the French magazine "Graffiti Art Magazine." The colorful abstraction catches the eye and brightens the gray wall of the building.

Fantastical House at Legionów 19

Also nominated for the same award was the mural at Legionów 19. This is the work of Poland's most famous street-art artist ‒ M-CITY. The mural depicts an extraordinary vision of a fantastical house, and the work was created using an atypical technique for Polish street art. M-CITY used large-format stencils, which he applied to the wall, to prepare this painting.

Unseated ‒ mural at aleja Kościuszki 27

A joint project by Łódź street-art artists known as Etam Crew and Venezuelan Sat One, who lives permanently in Germany. This extraordinary, large-format mural depicts a tumbling blue horse that has thrown its rider from its back. On the right side, the artists painted previous stages of this fall in shades of gray, making the whole composition appear as if it were a slow-motion reproduction of the scene.

Stencil Mural on Tuwima Street

Another work by M-CITY in our collection is a mural created on the wall of a single-story townhouse at ulica Tuwima 19, just next to the intersection with ulica Sienkiewicza. The painting has an oval shape and depicts a variation on the theme of an urban landscape executed in black and white. The mural was created in cooperation with the "100 Townhouses" program.

Woman at Uniwersyteckiej

The author of a fantastic portrait of a woman that appeared at ulica Uniwersyteckiej 12 is Przemysław Blejzyk "Sainer" ‒ a student of the Academy of Fine Arts, member of the Etam Crew group. The painting was executed using acrylic and spray paints. It constitutes an important element of the artist's diploma work. The popularity of this mural is evidenced by the fact that it began to appear in the form of a tattoo.

Jungle on Narutowicza

Brazilian artist using the pseudonym Nunca created a fantastical work on the wall of a building at ulica Narutowicza 25 that brings a bit of jungle to the heart of the city. The street-art depicts colorful, adorned with traditional patterns, faces of Native Americans emerging from behind bushes. 

Colorful Faces at Rzgowska 52

A large, colorful painting at Rzgowska 52 depicts abstract shapes from which faces, objects and letters emerge. We see on it the inscription "oil" located next to a palm tree, a tree stump and American dollars. This is the 30th mural in Łódź's gallery collection.

Woman with a Telephone at Zachodnia

Street-art by Russian graphic designer with the pseudonym Morik adorns the wall of a renovated townhouse. The mural depicts the story of a woman waiting for a phone call ‒ that is what the author himself says about his work, leaving the rest to the interpretation of viewers. The graphic can be admired at the corner of Zachodnia and Więckowskiego streets.

Moth

A mural titled "Sentir" was created at ulica Kilińskiego 26. Its author is Alexis Diaz ‒ a street artist from Puerto Rico who worked on this image for almost a month. The long working time results from the artist's unique technique - Alexis creates images using ink that he applies to the wall with a disproportionately thin brush. Diaz's murals are actually sketched graphics composed of millions of thin lines. The painting in Łódź makes the greatest impression in person, when up close we discover how much meticulous work the artist must put into creating his image.

Artur Rubenstein at Sienkiewicza 18

A mural by Brazilian painter with the pseudonym Kobra is an original interpretation of a famous photograph of the Łódź pianist. The work is dedicated to the memory of Artur Rubenstein and depicts him with a cheerful expression, holding his ears. The colorful graphic was created in collaboration with the "City 100 Townhouses" program.
