An open space in front of Piotrków's Gothic-Renaissance royal castle, home to the District Museum, a starting point for exploring the old town.
Plac Zamkowy in Piotrków Trybunalski is a public space in the historic city centre, stretching in front of the building of the former royal castle. Today it houses the Regional Museum in Piotrków Trybunalski, and the square itself functions as an open, pedestrian space in the heart of the city.
The name of the square refers directly to the Gothic-Renaissance castle standing beside it, built in 1512-1519 at the commission of King Zygmunt I the Elder. The building served as a royal residence during parliamentary sessions for centuries, and today houses a regional museum. The full history of the castle itself and its collections is described on the page dedicated to the museum, to which an entrance leads from the square.
The square lies in the city centre of Piotrków Trybunalski, within walking distance of the market square and main streets of the historic old town. As a public space it accompanies one of the city's most important monuments and serves as a natural landmark for visitors exploring Piotrków's old town.
