Ulica Fabryczna - photograph gallery and mural

The project "98-220 Fabryczna. Street of Memories" is a combination of an artistic mural with a photograph gallery on a 1:1 scale, documenting the history of Ulica Fabryczna in Zduńska Wola. The work by artist Karolina Treler, selected by residents through a participatory budget competition, is a tribute to the past of this small, one-way street in the city centre and its role in local identity.

About the project and the artist

Karolina Treler, the author of the mural, is known for several significant public art works in Zduńska Wola. Previously she painted murals on the building at ulica Łaska and on the building of the Zduńska Wola City Museum. The Street of Memories project came about as a result of voting by residents as part of the participatory budget, meaning the community had direct influence on the choice of artist and visual concept.

Photograph gallery on the façade

The installation contains large photographs of ulica Fabryczna from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, supplemented with photographs from the pre-war period. The archival photographs document the changing character of the street, the city landscape and the daily life of residents over more than 100 years. Each photograph is a window to the past, revealing what houses, shops, vehicles and people looked like in those times.

Ulica Fabryczna is more than a road - it is a fragment of the soul of Zduńska Wola. A narrow, one-way street in the heart of the city was always a place animated by trade, work and social life. Its name is directly linked to the city's industrial history, which developed around factories and manufactories. The mural on Ulica Fabryczna 4 preserves this fragment of urban reality, preventing forgetting what previous generations looked like and how the spaces where people worked and spent time changed.

The project is part of a broader strategy for the city, which is beginning to deserve a reputation as a city of murals. Along with other street art works appearing regularly in the city, Karolina Treler's installation contributes to the transformation of Zduńska Wola into a place where public art is accessible to all. Project budget and the significance of participation

The cost of implementing the project was 25,000 zloty from the city's participatory budget. The civic voting procedure allowed residents to decide on the form of commemoration of their city. This approach - where the local community chooses what it wants to see on the walls of its streets - is an example of participatory democracy and resident involvement in shaping public space.
