A three-storey shopping centre in Śródmieście, its shape echoing the city's old industrial buildings; a practical stop for shopping and coffee on a walk down Piotrkowska rather than an attraction in its own right.
Galeria Łódzka is a shopping centre at aleja Piłsudskiego 15/23 in Śródmieście [city centre district] in Łódź, a few minutes walk from ulica Piotrkowska. On three floors it houses approximately 150–170 shops, cafés and restaurants, with a total retail floor area of 45 thousand square metres. It is one of the landmarks of the city centre and a place where you can easily combine shopping with a visit to Piotrkowska.
The gallery opened on 24 October 2002. It was designed and built by ECE Projektmanagement Polska and Strabag Polska. The building's form is inspired by the neighbouring post-industrial buildings that are characteristic of this part of Łódź. In the year of opening, the building received recognition from the Association of Polish Architects, and in 2004 it won the European Best Shopping Centre Award.
On three levels, dozens of clothing shops operate, alongside cafés and food outlets. Over the years, the tenants of the large retail space have changed: the Tesco hypermarket operated here until 2017, and from 29 November 2018 its place was taken by a Lidl store.
Beneath the gallery operates a three-level car park with 1400 spaces, making it convenient to drive to the city centre. Given its proximity to Piotrkowska, the gallery is a convenient starting point for a walk along Łódź's representative street.
Galeria Łódzka stands in Śródmieście, on aleja Piłsudskiego, one of the main arteries linking the northern and southern parts of the city centre. For residents and tourists, it is above all a practical point on the city map: a place to shop, take a coffee break or use the toilet while visiting Piotrkowska, rather than a destination in itself.
