A late-19th-century building that housed the first hotel in Pabianice for about fifty years and later a nursing school, now viewed from the outside on Zamkowa street.
The historic townhouse at Zamkowa 1 in Pabianice stands in close proximity to Zamek Pabianicki [Pabianice Castle], separated from it by the Dobrzynka river. It was built in the second half of the 19th century, and over successive decades the building changed its function, always remaining connected with the reception of guests.
For around half a century the building housed Pabianice's first hotel, run together with the restaurant "Pod Złotą Kotwicą". It was this function that gave the building the name by which it is recognised today and under which it is entered in the municipal heritage register.
During the occupation period the building operated as a hotel with an inn and beer hall. In this way the original hospitable purpose of the place was continued, despite changing owners and the realities of those years.
From 1954 onwards the building changed to an educational character: it housed a nursing school and a midwifery school. This period lasted many years and for a long time defined the role of the townhouse in the city, before it underwent major renovation.
The building borders the former office, or counting house, of the industrial works Krusche-Ender, one of the most important industrial complexes of historic Pabianice. Such a location reflects the historical layout of the city, in which service and residential buildings stood directly next to factory buildings. The building at Zamkowa 1 is listed in the Municipal Heritage Register of Pabianice.
