A fountain with a bronze figure of a boy holding an apple on the square in front of Skierniewice station, put up in 2012 as a symbol of the town's horticultural tradition; lit up with changing colours at night.
In the square in front of Skierniewice railway station stands a small fountain with a bronze figure of a boy sitting under an apple tree, holding fruit in his hand. It is one of the symbols of the city, which has long promoted itself as a centre for horticultural sciences and fruit farming.
The fountain was erected in May 2012. The bronze figure was created by Skierniewice artist Dominik Dudek, and his two-year-old son at the time served as the model for the figure. The boy from the fountain is called various names: sometimes "Jaś", sometimes associated with the city mascot "Jabłcuś". Both names exist alongside each other and neither has the status of an official name for the figure.
Thin streams of water constantly flow from the branches of the apple tree under which the boy sits, and a geyser additionally spurts from the basin. In the evening, the installation is lit with changing colours. In winter, when the water is drained, the figure itself remains in place.
The apple motif refers to the horticultural and fruit-farming tradition of Skierniewice, which promotes itself as a centre for horticultural sciences. Associated with the fountain is the themed Jabłcuś Trail, leading from the railway station area towards further points in the city, including the City Park.
From the fountain, a walk around Skierniewice is not far away. Via the street leading from the station, you reach the Market Square, and along the way you can visit the Academy of Creativity, housed in a historic villa.
