A Polish licence-built version of the Soviet MiG-15bis fighter, standing since the 1970s by the Zadębie reservoir, now on private land, badly neglected and inaccessible up close.
An Lim-2, the Polish licensed version of the Soviet MiG-15bis fighter, bearing tail number 464, has stood above the Zadębie reservoir in Skierniewice for over half a century. The aircraft is now located on private land, is in a state of poor neglect, and cannot be approached closely.
It is a Lim-2, the Polish licensed version of the Soviet MiG-15bis, with fuselage number 464. The machine is eleven metres long and was delivered to the reservoir by lorry with folded wings. It previously belonged to the Technical Aviation School of the Armed Forces in Zamość.
The aircraft has stood above the Zadębie reservoir since the early 1970s. The foundation and frame on which it was mounted were built by workers of the now defunct Fumos factory. For decades it has been one of the distinctive landmarks of this part of the city, despite being formally located outside public land.
Together with the surrounding plot, the aircraft was sold as private property by the Military Property Agency. The city of Skierniewice attempted to buy it back from the current owner, but he was not interested in selling. The machine is undergoing progressive deterioration and, according to local reports, in its current state poses a safety hazard, which is why it cannot be viewed closely or accessed. This distinguishes it from most aircraft monuments in Poland, which typically stand on public land and can be viewed without obstruction.
Zadębie reservoir is one of the main recreational areas in Skierniewice, around which runs a cycle path. The aircraft can be seen from this public part of the area, although direct access to it is impossible. For many residents it remains an orientational landmark and a memento of the history of this place, despite being formally located outside the publicly accessible area.
