About Łódź Botanical Garden

Łódź Botanical Garden is a spacious park on Krzemienieck Street where you can spend a quiet afternoon among display plantings and water features close to nature. An ideal place for families with children wanting to explore different themed zones.

Łódź Botanical Garden covers 67 hectares on Polesie, at Krzemienieck Street 36/38, with additional entrances from Retkińska and Kusociński Streets. It contains over 3,500 plant species arranged across nine themed sections, and is managed by the Department of Parks and Greenery of Łódź City.

Beginnings in Źródliska Park

The garden's history began in 1929 in Źródliska Park, where its first section was established. In 1946, a medicinal plant garden was created there, which became the foundation of the current facility on Polesie.

Expansion and opening to the public

The expansion of the garden at its present location was planned by engineer Henryk Tomaszewski, and work began in 1967. The first section, covering 20 hectares, was opened to visitors on 19 July 1973.

Patron and listing as cultural heritage

In 1988, the garden received the name of botanist Jakub Mowszowicz. Thirty years later, in 2018, the facility was added to the list of contemporary cultural heritage of Łódź.

Nine themed sections

The garden grounds are divided into nine sections, including a Japanese garden, alpine garden, arboretum covering 18.7 hectares, medicinal plant garden and a section dedicated to Polish flora. Since 2001, educational trails have been maintained across the grounds dedicated to native tree species, aromatic plants, geological formations and six types of sunflowers.

In the vicinity of the garden on Polesie there are also other green and recreational areas, such as Park im. Jana Matejki and MOSiR Stawy Jana.
