About Malinka Bathing Area

A lakeside beach open since 1965 on the site of a former glider airfield, modernised in 2021 with natural water filtration and a sandy beach.

Kąpielisko Malinka is a recreational and leisure complex located north of Zgierz in the Rudunki district, open to the public for nearly sixty years. Since its opening on 15 August 1965, it has been a popular place of rest for residents of Zgierz and the surrounding area. Managed by the Municipal Centre for Sport and Recreation (MOSiR), it offers a supervised bathing zone guarded by WOPR rescue personnel, a white sandy beach, children's zones and full catering and sanitary facilities.

History of the place and wartime changes

Before the modern bathing area was created, the site functioned as a gliding field between 1939 and 1945, where Polish gliding developed. After the Second World War, from April 1945 onwards, aviation activities continued there. The transformation of the site from an airfield to a recreational complex reflects the general process of converting post-industrial landscapes into areas for social recreation, which was characteristic of Zgierz with its rich tradition of factory buildings. The location in the Rudunki district, a post-industrial part of the city, made this place an obvious choice for a public investment in leisure.

Modernisation in 2021 and current facilities

The bathing area underwent a major renovation in 2021, accompanied by modernisation of the infrastructure. The investment included the introduction of natural water filtration, improving the quality of the reservoir without aggressive chemicals. The beach received white sand, which is regularly maintained. The sanitary and catering facilities underwent a complete overhaul. Water is tested regularly during the season, and results are published on the official bathing area website, ensuring visitor safety. Water sports infrastructure includes kayaks, water bikes and boat rides.

Access and transport links

The bathing area is well served by public transport, particularly in the summer season. Bus lines 4 and 8 provide connections both from the centre of Zgierz and from Łódź, making it easy to reach the facility for tourists without a car. Parking is available on site, providing convenience for visitors. The location north of Zgierz towards Łódź makes the bathing area accessible both for local residents and for those planning a day trip from the Łódź Voivodeship.

What to expect at the beach

Visitors can use a safe bathing zone, sunny and shaded beaches, and designated rest areas. For the more active, water sports await, from recreational paddling to amateur competitions. Infrastructure for families with children is well developed, with separate zones for the youngest visitors and full personal hygiene facilities. The possibility of purchasing food and drinks on the site eliminates the need to prepare picnic supplies.
