Italian artist Awer's mural on Pomorska street is Poland's first three-dimensional mural, whose full effect only appears through special ChromaDepth glasses.
At ul. Pomorska 93, at the junction with ul. Zacisze in Bałuty, stands a building with a mural by Italian artist Awer. It was created in 2018 during the Urban Forms Festival and according to press reports was Poland's first three-dimensional mural of this type and one of only three such works in the world.
The full spatial effect of the mural is revealed only when viewed through special ChromaDepth glasses, brought by the festival organisers from the USA. The technology uses light diffraction depending on colour: elements painted in red appear closer when viewed through the glasses, while those in shades of blue recede into the depth of the composition.
Awer, born in 1986, has been painting since the age of fourteen and is among the more recognised figures in European street art. His compositions are described as hyperbolic and dreamlike, with expressive forms that draw the attention of passersby. He came to Łódź in 2018 alongside other artists invited to the Urban Forms Festival: Peeta from Italy, the duo 1010 from Germany, Viktor Puzin from Russia and Okuda from Spain.
A few numbers further along, at ul. Pomorska 84, is the mural by Viktor Puzin, painted in the same year and as part of the same festival. Both murals were created independently, but their proximity makes it easy to view them both during a single walk.
