Mural - BOA MISTURA (Spain), 2016

The mural at Skłodowskiej-Curie 26 in Łódź is the work of Spanish collective BOA MISTURA, created as part of Urban Forms. It covers more than 600 square metres of wall and was the group's first work in Poland.

Who painted the mural

BOA MISTURA is an interdisciplinary group of architects, graphic designers and illustrators from Madrid, creating murals and art installations worldwide. The Łódź realisation at Skłodowskiej-Curie 26 was the collective's first project in Poland, completed on 8-17 April 2016 as part of the Urban Forms programme.

Scale and technique

The mural's surface exceeds 600 square metres, making it one of the larger street art works in Łódź. The artists used approximately 200 litres of acrylic paint in 105 different colour shades. This extended palette allowed for smooth tonal transitions between the individual graphic forms surrounding the text at the centre of the composition.

The text and its source

In the central part of the composition, surrounded by colourful graphic forms, the text "Życie jest stanem umysłu" (originally "Life is a state of mind") appears. The quote comes from the 1971 novel "Being There" by Jerzy Kosiński. The reference to the work of a writer born in Poland who wrote in English in the United States gives the mural a literary dimension that extends beyond its visual form alone.

Who realised the project

The mural was created as part of the Urban Forms programme, through a collaboration between the Łódzkie Centrum Wydarzeń [Łódź Events Centre] and private investor Maxbud Development. This arrangement, combining a municipal institution with a private investor, is characteristic of some Urban Forms realisations on Łódź building facades.
