Mural - BORONDO (Spain), 2015

Pomorska 67, Łódź
About Mural - BORONDO (Spain), 2015

A mural by Spanish artist BORONDO from 2015 on the wall of a building at ulica Pomorska 67. A work of graphic art worth viewing particularly for street art enthusiasts and contemporary urban art lovers.

On the building at ulica Pomorska 67 in Łódź is a mural by Spanish artist Gonzalo Borondo from 2015. It depicts monumental human figures painted with dripping paint, in a style that references classical painting.

Who painted the mural

Gonzalo Borondo was born in 1989 in Spain and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts and School of Art in Madrid. In 2012 he participated in an international cultural exchange in Rome, and his works have been shown in Paris, London and New York among other places. Shortly before the Łódź mural was created, in February 2015, his solo exhibition Animal opened in London. The artist himself said it is easier to find him on the streets than on the internet, as he treats large formats on walls as his main medium of communication.

Style and technique

Characteristic of Borondo is his expressive brushwork and the dripping paint effect, which gives the figures a disturbing, unfinished appearance. The artist's work is strongly inspired by the painting of Francisco Goya, evident in the way he builds light and shadow on faces and silhouettes.

Second mural on the same building

The building at Pomorska 67 has two walls developed by the Urban Forms Foundation. On the opposite wall of the same complex, since 2011, there is an earlier mural by the Spanish duo ARYZ. The creation of Borondo's mural in 2015 did not replace that work, but expanded the street art gallery to the second side of the building, so both murals can be seen on one walk around the same building.

Curator and context

The curator of the project was Michał Bieżyński, and the patron remains the Urban Forms Foundation, responsible for most of the murals created in Łódź since 2011. Ulica Pomorska is one of the places in the city with the highest concentration of large-scale street art works.
