The mural on Franciszkańska street depicts a boy deported to the Łódź ghetto in 1941 and belongs to the "Children of Bałuty" memorial mural series.
On ulica Franciszkańska in the Bałuty district of Łódź stands the mural "Boy from the Ghetto". It depicts one of the boys deported to the Łódź Ghetto in October 1941, when approximately 20,000 Jews from Western Europe were brought to Litzmannstadt Ghetto. The mural was created in 2016.
The mural was created by Piotr Saul, assistant at the Department of Painting and Sculpture at Wrocław ASP [Academy of Fine Arts], and Damian Idzikowski, a student at Łódź ASP, based on a concept by Katarzyna Tośta. The image reproduces an archival photograph from the period when transports of deportees from Western Europe arrived at the ghetto.
The work belongs to the series "Children of Bałuty - memorial murals", conducted by the Urban Forms Foundation with support from the History Museum. It commemorates the fates of Polish, Jewish and Roma children from the Łódź Ghetto in the form of portraits on buildings in Bałuty. Since 2012, 21 murals have been created in this way.
Nearby you can see other works from this series: mural Zisele Świerc, mural Abram Cytryn and mural Abramek Kopłowicz.
