About Mural - ETAM (Poland), 2013

ETAM's mural is a large-scale artistic composition on the wall of a building on aleja Politechniki. Created in 2013, it attracts attention through its scale and colour palette. It is an ideal spot for photography and to learn more about Łódź's street art scene.

The mural at aleja Politechniki 16 in the Polesie district of Łódź was painted by the Polish duo ETAM Crew. It was unveiled on 4 June 2013 as the 22nd/23rd project of the Urban Forms Gallery Foundation in Łódź.

Who is ETAM Crew

ETAM Crew consists of Mateusz Gapski (Bezt) and Przemysław Blejzyk (Sainer), graduates of the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź, who began painting together after completing their studies in 2010. Their work can be seen in many European cities, including Germany, Russia, Portugal and Italy, and the duo's style combines surrealism with sarcastic humour and references to East European symbols.

Illustration of a Tuwim poem

The mural was created on the occasion of Julian Tuwim Year and illustrates his poem "W aeroplanie" (In an Aeroplane), which tells the story of an old woman and a hen escaping from her care, experiencing an unusual aviation adventure. The project was organised jointly by the Urban Forms Foundation and the House of Literature.

Scale and execution

The mural measures 16 metres in height and 12 metres in width. Despite heavy rain during the work, the artists completed it in six days, using over 100 cans of spray paint and 90 litres of acrylic paint. On the opposite wall of the same building there is another mural by the Urban Forms gallery, "Vase with Flowers" by Spanish artist Azyz.

Other murals in the area

In the same district, in Polesie, there is also a mural by Chilean artist INTI, another work realised as part of the Urban Forms Gallery Foundation.
