The mural "Kwiaty polskie" (Polish Flowers) on the Dom Literatury building is Gregor's tribute to Julian Tuwim, with a surrealist cross-section of the poet's head full of tiny details.
On the Dom Literatury building at ulica Roosevelta 17 in Łódź's Śródmieście [city centre], a mural titled "Kwiaty polskie" was created in July 2013 as a tribute to Julian Tuwim by artist Gregor. The work was part of Urban Forms Gallery, a programme of large-scale murals on the facades of buildings in Łódź.
The mural is titled "Kwiaty polskie", a direct reference to a poem by Julian Tuwim of the same name. The composition depicts a cross-section of the poet's head filled with abstract thoughts and a hand on which verses from the poem are placed. Gregor drew on a style close to Salvador Dalí's surrealism, constructing the image from small, densely arranged elements.
The mural's author is Grzegorz Gonsior, working under the pseudonym Gregor, a graduate of the Faculty of Textiles and Clothing at the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź. In his work he employs a distorted, surrealist style in which figures are composed of many small graphic elements. Gregor has several other documented street art works in Łódź from various years and also works on the European street art scene, having participated in international exhibitions.
The mural was created as part of Urban Forms Gallery, a programme of large-scale murals on building facades in Łódź, run by the Urban Forms foundation. The location on the Dom Literatury building connected the work's content, a tribute to the poet associated with Łódź, with the building's function as a place dedicated to literature.
