A mural by M-CITY on the building at ul. Legionów 19 is one of the most recognisable street art works in Łódź. Worth seeing to discover the city's contemporary art scene and its transformation through public art.
The M-CITY mural on ul. Legionów 19 in Łódź is one of the first projects of the Mia100 Kamienic revitalisation programme, which since 2011 has been changing the appearance of neglected buildings in the city with the participation of street art artists. The work was created by Mariusz Waras, an artist known in this circles as M-CITY.
Mariusz Waras comes from Gdynia and is a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk. In his work he regularly returns to the theme of architecture and urban landscape, creating fantastic, elaborate structures reminiscent of industrial installations.
The work in Łódź was created in 2011, in the first year of the Mia100 Kamienic programme run by the Urban Forms Foundation together with the Łódź City Office. The artist created the image using stencil technique: large-format stencils cut from cardboard or thick film were applied to the wall and covered with paint.
On the wall of the building at Legionów 19 is a fantastic house made of pipes, chimneys and structures resembling an industrial installation. This is a typical motif for M-CITY, who regularly combines architecture with mechanical elements in his murals.
