A 2016 mural by Israeli artist Nitzan on ulica Organizacji WiN [Organisation WIN Street]. Worth seeing to discover the work of international street artists who have worked in Łódź.
In the courtyard of a tenement building at ulica Organizacji WiN 10 in Bałuty is a verse mural created in 2016 by Israeli artist and poet Nitzan Mintz. It was the first street poetry realisation of its kind in Poland, that is, a poem painted directly onto a wall instead of an image or graphic.
The work appears in two versions, Polish and Hebrew. The Hebrew version is placed on the cellar door of the building, and the Polish version on the courtyard wall. The poem was dedicated to Halina Szwarc-Kłąb, who spent her childhood in this building during the Litzmannstadt ghetto period, which grounds the mural directly in the history of this particular location in Bałuty.
Nitzan Mintz was born in Tel Aviv and in her works combines the character of a given place with the theme of memory. Instead of decorative graphics, she creates texts grounded in local history, which is why the choice of the building at Organizacji WiN, connected to ghetto history, was no accident.
The mural was created as part of the Energia Miasta 2016 festival, which invited three Israeli artists working around the history of Bałuty: Nitzan Mintz, DEDE and Untay. On the same tenement building, on a different wall, a mural called Searching Safety by DEDE was created at that time, based on a bandage motif. As part of the same festival in Łódź, a mural by Andrzej PoProstu was also painted, referring to patterns from Łódź textile factories.
