PENER's mural on the facade of the Szkolne Schronisko Młodzieżowe on Legionów street is a sharp geometric abstraction with no figures or scenes.
The PENER mural on the façade of Szkolnego Schroniska Młodzieżowego [Youth Hostel] at ulica Legionów 27 in Łódź is one of the works created as part of the Mia100 Kamienic urban regeneration programme. The artist is Bartek Świątecki, who works under the pseudonym PENER.
Bartek Świątecki has been involved in the Polish graffiti and street art scene since 1996. He is often mentioned as one of the three most important large-scale abstract artists in Poland, alongside several other artists working in a similar, geometric style.
The work in Łódź was created in 2012 as part of the Mia100 Kamienic programme run by the Urban Forms Foundation together with the Łódź City Office. The artist covered the façade of the youth hostel building with a geometric composition, without reference to any specific figures or scenes.
The image consists of sharp, mutually interlocking geometric shapes arranged in an energetic, abstract composition. Besides murals, Świątecki also paints smaller paintings on canvas in the same style, sought after by art collectors around the world.
