A mural by Israeli artist DEDE Bandaid shows interwoven bandages as a symbol of healing personal and collective trauma, created in Bałuty in 2016.
On the same tenement building at ulica Organizacji WiN 10 in Bałuty, on a different wall from the text mural by Nitzan Mintz, Israeli artist DEDE Bandaid from Tel Aviv created a mural in 2016 titled Searching Safety.
The mural consists of a motif of connected bandages stretched across the building's wall. The artist uses this motif as a symbol of healing personal and community trauma, which takes on particular significance in Bałuty given the district's multicultural history and the period of the Litzmannstadt ghetto.
DEDE Bandaid comes from Tel Aviv and consistently returns to the bandage motif in his work as a sign of dressing wounds, both literal and historical. Another mural by him with a similar motif was created in Bałuty, though its exact location has not been established.
Searching Safety was created as part of the Energia Miasta 2016 festival, in which DEDE took part alongside Nitzan Mintz and Untay, who were invited to Łódź specifically in connection with the history of Bałuty. On the same building wall is a text mural by Nitzan Mintz in Polish and Hebrew, dedicated to a building resident from the ghetto period. As part of the same edition of the festival in Łódź, a mural by Andrzej PoProstu was also created, drawing on patterns from Łódź textile factories.
