The mural "Detronizacja" by SEPE and CHAZME showed figures sliding off a chessboard as a metaphor for the rat race. It was painted over in February 2024 and no longer exists.
At Próchnika 9 in Łódź there was a mural known in catalogues as "Detronisation", created in August 2011 by SEPE and CHAZME as part of Urban Forms Gallery. According to the official catalogue of the Urban Forms Foundation, the organisation managing the project, the work was painted over with solid yellow paint in February 2024 and is no longer visible.
"Detronisation" showed figures sliding off a large chessboard, which the artists described as a metaphor for the rat race and an unfair game for social position. The mural was created using spray paint technique on concrete, on the facade of a building on Próchnika Street. The composition brought together two styles in one work: SEPE was responsible for human figures in urban situations, and CHAZME for the geometric, architectural background.
SEPE, properly Michał Wręga, was born in 1982 in Warsaw and is a graduate of graphic art from the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź. In his work he combines graphic art, illustration and figurative painting, working with spray paint, acrylic, ink, bituminous paste, pencil and marker. CHAZME, Daniel Kaliński, was born in 1980 in Laufen, Switzerland, and studied architecture at Warsaw University of Technology, completing his studies in 2008. In his work he designs geometric architectural landscapes. In 2011, the same year "Detronisation" was created, CHAZME received the ARTAQ Urban Art Award.
The mural was created as part of Urban Forms Gallery, a Łódź programme of large-scale murals on building facades, run by the Urban Forms Foundation. For over a decade, the programme has been changing the appearance of Łódź's walls, inviting Polish and foreign artists to work on buildings in different parts of the city.
