The mural "Ekstremalna Objętość" by Russian graphic designer Viktor Puzin uses geometry, light and shadow to create an illusion of three-dimensional depth beyond the flat wall.
On the wall of the building at ulica Pomorska 84 in Bałuty is a mural by Russian artist Viktor Puzin, painted in 2018 during the Urban Forms Festival. The work is based on a three-dimensional depth illusion, one of several similar projects the festival brought to Łódź that summer.
The mural is titled Extreme Volume, or Extra Volume in the original. Its author, Viktor Puzin, is a Russian graphic designer and architect, owner of the Design Paint Point studio specialising in 3D drawings and optical illusions. On the wall at Pomorska, he used geometric shapes arranged so that light and shadow create an impression of depth extending beyond the flat surface of the building.
The mural was created as part of the Urban Forms Festival, which ran in Łódź from 20 to 29 July 2018. The organisers invited several artists known for their work in urban space, including Peeta from Italy, the duo 1010 from Germany, Okuda from Spain, and Italian painter Auer, author of a 3D mural created a few buildings further along the same street. The festival has long brought to Łódź artists working at large scale on the walls of tenement houses, and the 2018 edition focused in part on murals employing the illusion of three-dimensionality.
Puzin's work sits beside the mural by Auer at ulica Pomorska 93. Both were created in the same year and as part of the same festival, making this stretch of Pomorska one of the places in Łódź where works employing three-dimensional illusion are concentrated.
