Nowa Sukcesja

The venue at aleja Politechniki 1 operates, but under a different name than most Łódź residents know it by. Sukcesja closed in 2020 following the developer's bankruptcy and after renovation reopened on 18 December 2024 as Nowa Sukcesja, a shopping and entertainment centre with a cinema and large play area.

First opening and rapid collapse

The centre was built from December 2012 to September 2015. The investor was Fabryka Biznesu, the general contractor was Mirbud, the cornerstone was laid on 21 May 2014, and the opening took place on 25 September 2015. One of the city's largest shopping facilities was created: approximately 120 thousand square metres of total floor space, seven storeys and 55 metres in height. Success did not follow. The Regional Court in Łódź declared the developer bankrupt on 8 April 2020, and on 30 June 2020 the gallery ceased operations, less than five years after opening. The pandemic accelerated what had begun earlier: footfall after shopping galleries reopened did not return to previous levels. Customers remained with familiar addresses, above all at Manufaktura.

New owner and renovation

In 2022 the property was purchased by Turkish entrepreneur Sabri Bekdas through Amush Investment Group. From 2023 renovation work took place, adding greenery, wood and glazing, and the venue's programme shifted towards entertainment. Reopening was planned for December 2024 and took place on 18 December. The name Sukcesja remained in common usage, but officially the venue is called Nowa Sukcesja.

What operates today

Helios cinema operates and occupies the fourth level. It has nine air-conditioned screens, displays in 4K standard, Dolby Atmos and Dolby 7.1 sound, two screens in the higher Helios Dream standard, a café and bar. The repertoire features cycles such as women's cinema, film marathons and screenings for children. Approximately half the building's floor space is occupied by the Hopa Lupa entertainment zone with a trampoline park, which opened in February 2025. Beyond this, the centre houses clothing, cosmetics and footwear shops, food outlets and a dance school. If you are looking for indoor entertainment in another part of the city, an alternative is aquapark Fala.

Nowa Sukcesja stands in the part of Łódź oriented towards large facilities: universities, student accommodation and halls. Nearby, concerts and sporting events take place at Atlas Arena, so a visit to the centre can easily be combined with an evening event.

Is it a tourist attraction

It is primarily a shopping centre rather than a heritage site, so on the list of places to visit in Łódź it ranks well behind Piotrkowska Street and former factories. It makes sense as a contingency plan for a rainy day, as a cinema and as a place for children. It is also interesting in itself how a large shopping facility can collapse and return to life after a four-year closure, because such stories are uncommon in Polish cities.
