Courtyard at Piotrkowska 102

The courtyard at Piotrkowska 102 has undergone a transformation in recent years: from a neglected utility space it became a representative courtyard with stone and granite paving, into which historic cast iron plates recovered from demolished Łódź factories were embedded. On one wall stretches a large mural by the New York group Tats Cru, and at the back of the courtyard operates the iconic Łódź Kaliska club.

From a factory owner's tenement to an artists' club

The tenement was built in 1885, and belonged among others to the industrialist Juliusz Heinzel. In 1996 the Łódź Kaliska club was established in the courtyard, designed by Marek Janiak and Wojciech Saloni-Marczewski, home to the avant garde artistic group of the same name, a venue for concerts, photography exhibitions and theatrical shows. Between 2022 and 2023 a comprehensive renovation of the entire courtyard space was carried out, costing around five million złoty, which gave it its current, representative look.

Practical information

The courtyard is open to everyone, functioning as a public space with venues: the Łódź Kaliska club, Lordi's Club, 6. Dzielnica and Foto Cafe 102, so besides a walk and admiring the mural you can also eat or have a coffee here. The courtyard space itself has no separate entry in the attractions database, individual venues within it are listed, the front tenement is listed as Kamienica A. Starke. In the evening, when the lights of the mural and the venues come on, the courtyard becomes one of the livelier meeting spots in this part of Piotrkowska, and the mural is worth viewing both up close and from across the full width of the courtyard.
