Scenografia is a night club and artistic café housed in a historic building in the Balut district. The club organises concerts, stand-up comedy, burlesque performances, and also provides space for private events, business meetings and training sessions. The club has capacity for up to 500 people, and the interior features modern equipment and a well-stocked bar.
The building housing Scenografia dates from 1879. It was built for entrepreneur Adolf Manteuffel according to a design by architect Hilary Majewski, one of the leading designers of Łódź at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Originally the building served as a hotel, representing the style of the era with its rich façade decorations and comfortable interior for guests.
Between 1954 and 1989 the building was home to the Cytryna Student Satire Theatre, an artistic theatre institution that enjoyed considerable popularity in Łódź's theatre and artistic circles. The theatre specialised in satirical performances and comedies, attracting both students and adult audiences interested in alternative theatre. The theatre contributed to the development of satire and comedy in Polish student theatre.
From 1997 the building housed Cytryna cinema, which specialised in films for viewers interested in cinema outside the mainstream – artistic productions, documentaries and international films. Cytryna cinema was an institution for more demanding cinematography audiences and became an important venue on the map of Łódź art cinemas. The cinema closed on 26 September 2009, ending the era of film screening in the building. After the cinema closed, the building was transformed into Klub Scenografia – an artistic centre combining theatrical and film tradition with modern entertainment. The club organises musical concerts, stand-up evenings, burlesque performances and other artistic events. The club space is also available for hire for private events, business meetings and training sessions. Modern equipment, including a professional sound and lighting system, and a well-stocked bar make it a versatile space for entertainment art audiences. The club's atmosphere combines respect for the building's rich history with the energy of contemporary night culture.
Scenografia offers varied artistic programmes, tailoring its offer to audience interests. The club has become an important venue on the map of Łódź's alternative artistic scene, where artists and art audiences can meet and share experiences.
