The square on ul. Cmentarna in Piotrków Trybunalski bears the name of lawyer Stanisław Srzednicki, longtime deputy president of the Regional Court and the first President of the Supreme Court of interwar Poland.
Stanisław Srzednicki Square is a small green square on Cmentarna Street in Piotrków Trybunalski, named after one of the most important Piotrków lawyers at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.
Stanisław Pomian-Srzednicki was born on 8 May 1840 and died on 16 March 1925 in Piotrków Trybunalski. From 1876 he served as a judge, and from 1881 to 1916 he was vice-president of the District Court in Piotrków. After Poland regained independence, in the years 1917–1922, he became the first President of the Supreme Court of the newly reborn Republic.
Beyond his work in the judiciary, Srzednicki was engaged in the social life of Piotrków. He was honorary president of the Council of the Christian Charitable Society and honorary president of the management board of the Bar Association District, and he also belonged to worker and craft associations operating in the city. According to his will, he was buried at the Old Cemetery in Piotrków, near which the square bearing his name now lies.
The area on Cmentarna Street is maintained by the municipal Road and City Maintenance Authority, as is the case with most Piotrków squares. It functions as a publicly accessible green space without time restrictions.
Other intimate squares operate on a similar scale in the city, such as Baranki Square with sculptures of rams and peacocks or Volunteer Fire Brigade Square on Krakowskie Przedmieście. All three demonstrate how Piotrków develops small squares in the city centre.
