The wall of a former prison is decorated with painted lines from poems by winners of the Złoty Środek Poezji festival, starting with the first verse added by Wojciech Gierdys.
Poets' Wall is a mural with verses on the wall of a former prison, on the passage from ulica 29 Listopada to Park Traugutta in Kutno. It was created as a memorial to successive editions of the poetry festival "Złoty Środek Poezji" [Golden Centre of Poetry] and combines street painting with text.
The "Złoty Środek Poezji" festival was founded in 1989 by poet Artur Fryz, and its first edition took place in 2005. It is the laureates of successive festival editions whose verses are transferred onto the wall at the entrance to the park.
The author of the first verse placed on the wall was Wojciech Gierdys, a festival laureate, and it was painted by artist Tomasz Czyżewski. After him, further quotations from poems awarded in "Złoty Środek Poezji" began to appear on the wall.
By 2017, around twelve such painted verses had accumulated on the wall. Some of them suffered damage from acts of vandalism, so the exact number of legible inscriptions today is often fewer than at the time of creation.
