About this event
It is commonly believed that modernist architecture broke with the dictate of decorativeness, freeing itself from the compulsion to use ornamentation. But was it really so, or did only the means of expression and the grammar of ornament change? In a lecture by Maria Nowakowska from the Institute of Detail, we will examine the evolution of interwar architectural forms, seeking answers to the question of whether beauty from Vitruvius's triad truly ceased to flatter the principle of decorativeness in the interwar period. Maria Nowakowska is a researcher and curator of architecture associated with the Institute of Detail. In recent years, she has focused on promoting phenomena related to interwar Łódź architecture as part of the Łódzki Modernizm initiative.
