Action Adaptation | Jane Austen's Relationship with Cinema - Meeting with Dr. hab. Agnieszka Łowczanin and Dorota Konowrocka-Sawa at Mediateka MeMo

A return of two beloved stories whose previous film adaptations have gathered millions of devoted fans. Although new premieres will serve as a pretext for the meeting, our goal is to look at the broader picture and carefully examine Austen's relationship with cinema. What power lies in Jane Austen's prose, a power that makes each new generation sit down to watch the next films with bated breath...and constantly return to the books? Can new adaptations—often modernized—offer an interesting perspective to the discussion of themes explored by Austen? We will try to answer all of this. The discussion will be led by Julia Kaźmierczak, a film studies student, member of the Film Studies Circle at University of Łódź, publicist and film journalist. The event will be opened by Jakub Marciniak from Portal Immersja. This time we have two special guests joining us: Dorota Konowrocka-Sawa, a translator and author of translations of numerous works from various genres (literary classics, science fiction, horror and non-fiction), including the latest edition of "Pride and Prejudice". She will offer a unique perspective on the classic "from the inside". Her presence also emphasizes our goal throughout this event: increasing the role of translators and literature experts in mainstream discussions about adaptations. Dr. hab. Agnieszka Łowczanin from the University of Łódź, where she teaches, specializes in British culture and literature (especially gothic novels; she studied the origins of literary gothic in Poland).
