Blizny. Krajobrazy po przemyśle - author meeting with Marta Tomczok at Biblioteka Wolność

The discovery of brown coal, copper, and sulfur deposits meant the end of existence for many local communities. With the rise of new industrial centers, entire settlements shrank or disappeared: Opolno and Rybarzowice in Łużyce, Kazimierz Biskupi and Pątnów in Konińskie, Bogomice and Rapocin near Głogów, and Piaski and Wola Grzymalina in Łódzkie. For many places, what was considered an economic opportunity meant destruction. Some were covered by waste heaps, others flooded. The once-idyllic landscape of these communities was permanently changed, in many cases leading to ecological disaster. The author invites us on a journey to these places, giving voice to their inhabitants. She reconstructs life rooted in villages that no longer exist, memories of ecosystems, and experiences of those affected.
