About this event
"The Ugly Duckling" is a production by Teatru Pinokio based on Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale, translated by Stefania Beylin, adapted and directed by Bartosz Kurowski. The performance is intended for audiences aged 6 and up and brings the popular story to the stage using theatrical forms, puppets and masks, authentically and at times very amusingly.
Colorful, exaggerated forms capture viewers' attention, while the dialogue directs it to important themes that Andersen presents to children: tolerance and acceptance, the right to respect, and finding one's own way and place in the world.
The production was created as part of the nationwide "Sensitive Culture" competition. The creative team includes people with alternative motor skills, people with intellectual disabilities, and neurodivergent individuals who, together with actors from Teatru Pinokio in Łódź, open theatre for young and growing audiences in new ways of experiencing it. Audio description, Polish Sign Language interpretation, and plain language are integral elements of the performance.
