"Cyganeria" has graced the stage of Teatru Wielkiego in Łódź three times – most recently in 2007 in an outstanding production by Laco Adamika. This exceptionally popular opera by Giacomo Puccini – second only to Turandot – is one of the most frequently performed works on world opera stages, not only for its impressive music but also for its moving plot. Its characters – colorful representatives of artistic bohemia – unexpectedly encounter surprising situations far from their habits and customs, situations that evoke different reactions and emotions within them. The opera's main protagonist – Mimi – brings new values and emotions into their lives, and for Rudolf, an artist-painter, she becomes an object of new and profound feelings not entirely possible to fully realize.
