Four traditional stories from Inuit, African, Jewish, and Ancient Greek cultures feature mothers as main protagonists. They desire, wander, and name. They experience childbirth as an initiatory journey, seek connection with their ancestors, learn motherhood through wandering, and feel ecstasy and anger, tenderness and despair. In these indigenous narratives, mothers are deeply connected to the Earth and forces of Nature—the small mother and the Great Mother (in the form of Water, Mountain, Moon, Animals, and Plants) are one. Traditional stories intertwine with the personal experience of storyteller mother Beata Frankowska, woven together by the trance rhythm and singing of multi-instrumentalist Helena Sishnu Matuszewska.
