"Gesture and Mimicry of d/Deaf" | exhibition | Festival Łódź Wielu Kultur

Art, Festival Łódź Wielu Kultur. A painting exhibition by Marek Krzysztof Lasecki dedicated to the role of facial expression and gesture in communication among d/Deaf people, for whom mimicry is part of Polish Sign Language grammar, not merely an expression of emotion. The presented portraits, built with strong color masses and distinctive drawing, showcase the dynamics of facial expression and reference the work of 19th-century deaf painter Feliks Pęczarski. The artist is a painter, graphic designer, and deaf education specialist who has worked for years with Deaf students at an educational center in Warsaw. The exhibition is curated by art historian Agnieszka Kołodziejczak. The opening is accompanied by a meeting with the artist and a guided tour, interpreted between Polish Sign Language and spoken language, making the event accessible to both hearing and d/Deaf people.
