"Instructions for Operating Normalcy" | exhibition opening | Łódź Wielu Kultur Festival

Art, Łódź Wielu Kultur Festival. An exhibition of posters, portraits, and video works by Tomasz Grabowski, a graduate of Warsaw's ASP and scholarship recipient of the Paris School of Graphics, who ironically and humorously challenges social perceptions of normalcy and ability. The starting point is alternative ways of perceiving the world, such as echolocation and bioluminescence, leading to the question of whether there exists one universal standard of a functioning body. An important thread is the presence of the Deaf community: portraits of outstanding Deaf individuals restore their visibility and challenge paternalistic stereotypes about disability. The exhibition, created thanks to a scholarship from the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, was curated by art historian Agnieszka Kołodziejczak. The opening will be interpreted from Polish Sign Language to spoken language and vice versa. The full festival program day by day: Łódź Wielu Kultur Festival on Dziś w Łodzi.
