The Conversation, dir. Francis Ford Coppola, (1973), 113' Harry Caul, a surveillance specialist, follows the principle of executing assignments without questioning their purpose. However, after capturing a seemingly innocent recorded conversation between two young people containing the words "He'll kill us if he gets the chance," Caul feels moral responsibility for his work for the first time. Concerned for the safety of those being surveilled, he attempts to contact the client who commissioned the recording. Meanwhile, the tapes are stolen from Caul and fall into the hands of the client. Ultimately, the client is murdered almost before Caul's eyes. Officially ruled an accident.
