A ballet by Gioacchino Rossini and Giorgio Madia. Choreography and staging by Giorgio Madia, set and costume design by Cordelia Matthes, lighting design by Jerzy Stachowiak. Madia reimagines the Cinderella tale, transporting it to the 1950s—a period he recalls as an era of revived dreams, hope, and optimism. Inspired equally by Walt Disney's "Cinderella," now a pop culture icon, this version tells the touching story of a girl tormented by her cruel stepmother and stepsisters. However, on stage, the narrative is more ambiguous than in the classic tales by Charles Perrault and the Brothers Grimm.
