The latest premiere of Łódź's Arlekin theatre returns to the roots of Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale, staying true to the author's original text and ideas. It challenges popular film adaptations that have altered the plot, characters, and ending over the years. This production shows how the original story of a girl from the sea and her desires remains remarkably relevant today. Andersen's classic tale has inspired many adaptations, including Disney's most famous version. But is this truly a happy ending? Is giving up one's voice for a prince's love a good idea? Would the prince really want to spend his life with a girl he cannot communicate with?
