Between Words and Silence. A Walk in the Footsteps of Alina Szapocznikow and Chava Rosenfarb

On August 23 at 11:00, we depart from Plac Kościelny on a Łódzki Szlak Kobiet walk dedicated to the extraordinary writer and poet Chava Rosenfarb and sculptor Alina Szapocznikow. Nearly contemporaries, they shared the experience of imprisonment in the Łódź ghetto. After the war, they told the story of the Holocaust in completely different ways. During the walk, Łódzki Szlak Kobiet examines the fates of Chava Rosenfarb—one of the most prominent writers working in Yiddish, author of the monumental "The Tree of Life"—and Alina Szapocznikow, a world-renowned sculptor whose work became a narrative about physicality, sexuality, and trauma. We will visit places connected to daily life in the ghetto, recall fragments of memories and literature, and reflect on how space speaks to us.
