Museum for Adults - Life in the Chinese Imperial Harem at Muzeum Archeologicznym i Etnograficznym

An exploration of the hierarchies and roles of women in the imperial harem, including the duties of empresses and concubines, their relationships with one another, and the role of eunuchs as intermediaries and guardians. Discover the private apartments, daily rituals, systems of rewards and punishments, and the elaborate rules of etiquette governing every aspect of harem life. The lecture will also examine the political significance of the harem as a place where succession, clan influence, and relations between the court and state bureaucracy were determined.
