During a shared night, Bazyli, a sports doctor and jazz musician, and Pelagia engage in a game of banter while attempting to escape their own feelings. They hide behind masks of words and poses, as if truth were the most dangerous and rationed commodity in People's Poland. The protagonists wander through nocturnal Warsaw, arrive at a private party at friends' place, converse with other young people, and return home at dawn.
