The latest eagerly-awaited film by Oscar® laureate Paweł Pawlikowski, creator of "Ida" and "Cold War," winner of the directing award at this year's 79th Cannes International Film Festival. In his newest work, like his previous two films, the director tackles themes of identity, guilt, family, and love against the backdrop of chaos and moral confusion in post-war Europe. "Ojczyzna" tells the story of the relationship between Thomas Mann (Hanns Zischler), Nobel Prize winner in literature, and his daughter Erika (Sandra Hüller) – an actress and writer. The action takes place during the height of the Cold War. Father and daughter embark on a difficult, emotionally intense journey in a black Buick through devastated Germany – from American-controlled Frankfurt to Soviet-influenced Weimar.
