Opening of the exhibition "Confessions of multicultural Łódź. Catholicism, Judaism, Protestantism, Orthodoxy" | Wojewódzka Biblioteka Publiczna

The exhibition "Confessions of multicultural Łódź. Catholicism, Judaism, Protestantism, Orthodoxy" at the Wojewódzka Biblioteka Publiczna im. Marszałka Józefa Piłsudskiego in Łódź presents the earliest religious prints, mostly from the 16th century. It was prepared by the Department of Special Collections. The exhibition accompanies a popular science conference "Shared Łódź. Religions of Four Cultures", which will take place at WBP on November 17. Among the displayed exhibits will be: - **Catholicism:** including the first Catholic translation of the Bible into Polish from 1561, decorated with 284 woodcuts, - **Judaism:** a fragment of the Torah in scroll form and the Old Testament in Hebrew, - **Protestantism:** a 17th-century Bible in Martin Luther's translation, in leather binding with rich ornamentation, gilding and brass fittings, - **Orthodoxy:** books in Old Church Slavonic, including the Sluzhebnik and Mineya Obshchaya. Particular attention should be paid to exhibits borrowed from the Cathedral Parish of the Orthodox Church of St. Alexander Nevsky in Łódź.
