Andrzej Wajda – film and theater director, screenwriter and set designer, one of the greatest creators in world cinema history. A presentation of the artist's profile and his 1958 masterpiece. The lecture presents Ashes and Diamonds as supplementary material to Romantic literature, revealing the durability and crisis of myths it created in 20th-century culture. Analysis of selected scenes and the character of Maciek Chełmicki enables participants to recognize features of the Romantic hero and compare them with post-war political and existential reality. The lecture develops skills in interpreting film in the context of literature and history, as well as critical reflection on the cultural heritage of Romanticism.
