Radu Jude is one of the most important and defiant voices in contemporary European cinema. The Romanian director and screenwriter consistently combines satire, film essay, documentary and fiction, creating political cinema that is formally brilliant and merciless toward social hypocrisy. His films, awarded at the most prestigious festivals, tackle themes of historical memory, systemic violence, capitalism and everyday absurdities of Eastern Europe. For 'Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn' he received the Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival, while 'Do Not Expect Too Much from the End of the World' won him the Special Jury Prize in Locarno. His cinema is both erudite and audacious: it provokes, entertains, accuses and constantly undermines comfortable ways of telling stories.
